Portland's Premier Purveyors of Fine Handmade Tiles

Since 2006, partners Leigh Odell and Andy Morrison have built their Tempest Tileworks studio into an high-performance production facility where they craft their visions into reality, drawing their inspiration from antique etchings and patterns of past centuries. We talk with Leigh and Andy about their experience honing their craft here in PDX:

UN: How long have you been in business?

Tempest Tileworks (the studio) - eleven years.

Tempest Tileroom( the showroom) - two years.

Tempest Tileroom is a raw, unscripted, creative space showcasing NW tile makers and American made products.

UN: What is unique about your business?

We manufacture custom handmade tile. The showroom offers American made ceramic, stone and glass tiles with an emphasis on NW tile makers.

UN: For you, what is most important about the customer experience?

Building great relationships with the design and architecture community while offering homeowners the best of American made products.

How would you describe the community that surrounds your business?

Small manufacturers for the building industry and home improvement.

UN: What do you think makes your business a great fit for Portland?

The NW has long been a place for ceramic and glass creativity. Our raw materials all come from Georgies Ceramic here in Portland and our kilns are manufactured less than two miles from our studio, keeping our carbon footprint to a minimum.

UN: What is your favorite thing about Portland?

Each of the many neighborhoods in Portland has a passion for offering an array of coffee shops, brew houses, food carts and cutting edge cuisine restaurants.

UN: What part of town do you live in, and what do you love about it most?

On the Eastside. The amount of parks and green spaces it has to offer.
